Terms of Service

Last updated June 2026

1. Agreement

By ticking the acceptance box, creating an account, or using Solace, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. We record the date and version you accept. If you don't agree, please don't use Solace.

2. What Solace is — and isn't

Solace is an AI companion for emotional reflection and wellbeing. It is not a therapist, counsellor, doctor, or any licensed professional, and it does not provide therapy, diagnosis, treatment, or medical advice. No professional or therapeutic relationship is created by using it. It is not a substitute for professional care.

3. Not for emergencies

Solace is not a crisis service and cannot contact emergency services. If you are in crisis or at risk of harm, contact emergency services (999 in the UK) or the Samaritans on 116 123, or your local equivalent.

4. Your responsibility

AI responses can be inaccurate or inappropriate. You use Solace voluntarily and at your own risk, rely on your own judgement, and remain solely responsible for your decisions, health, and wellbeing. Seek qualified professional help for any significant medical, mental-health, legal, or financial matter.

5. Eligibility

You must be 16 or older to create an account. If you are 16 or 17, please use Solace with the awareness of a parent or guardian; we apply higher-privacy defaults for minors (cross-session memory is off by default, and you can turn it on from your profile). Solace is not a substitute for parental, medical, or professional support.

6. Subscription

Solace is £10/month or £102/year after a 7-day free trial, billed via Stripe (web) or your app store. Cancel anytime; access continues to the end of the paid period. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable.

7. Your content

Your conversations and journal entries are yours. We process them only to provide the service, we do not sell them, and we do not use them to train AI models. You can export or delete them anytime.

8. Our intellectual property and method

Solace, its branding, and the distinctive prompts and methodology behind how it responds (the "Method") are owned by Therapy Friend and are confidential and proprietary. You may not copy, resell, reverse-engineer, or attempt to replicate the Method or any part of the service.

9. Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that responses are accurate, reliable, or suitable for any purpose.

10. Release and limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release Therapy Friend, the Solace service and the Method, and their owners, founders, directors, employees and agents (the "Released Parties") from all claims connected with your use of the service — including any claim that Solace, the Method, or its owners caused or failed to prevent any harm, distress, or deterioration in health. The Released Parties are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and total liability will not exceed the greater of the fees you paid in the prior 12 months or £100. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited (such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify the Released Parties against claims arising from your misuse of the service or breach of these Terms.

12. Changes & termination

We may update these Terms and will post the new version. You may delete your account anytime; we may suspend access for breach.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
